Overview

CNC milling for complex, multi-axis and large-format parts

Total Manufacturing provides precision CNC milling services across vertical, horizontal, and horizontal boring equipment, with 3-, 4-, and simultaneous 5-axis capabilities. This range supports intricate multi-face components, large plates and machine bases, machined weldments, and other custom parts with demanding geometry and access requirements. Milled parts are held to tight tolerances and the surface finishes specified on the drawing, whether the job is a single prototype or a multi-part production run.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Have questions? Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.

What information should I provide for a CNC milling quote?

You can submit files like a drawing, CAD file, or CAD model with your initial quote request or as a follow-up once we've connected on your project. Also include the material, quantity, dimensional requirements, surface finish requirements, and any applicable inspection or documentation requirements.

Can CNC milling be combined with other manufacturing processes?

Yes. CNC milling can be coordinated with CNC turning, grinding, EDM, fabrication, finishing, and inspection within the same facility. Combining these processes under one manufacturing partner reduces handoffs and keeps a single point of accountability for the completed part.

What types of parts are a good fit for CNC milling?

CNC milling is a good fit for intricate multi-axis components, large plates, weldments, housings, and other parts requiring precise geometry across multiple features. Total Manufacturing's equipment range supports both small, detailed parts and large-format components in the same facility. A range of cutting tools and multi-axis setups allows both simple and highly complex geometries to be held to the same tight tolerances within a single job.

What is the largest CNC milling work envelope?

Our CNC milling equipment supports work envelopes up to 96" x 200". This capacity allows large plates, weldments, and oversized components to be machined in fewer setups than smaller equipment allows. Final part fit still depends on the complete geometry, weight, and workholding requirements, so share the drawing during quoting.

What industries does Total Manufacturing's CNC milling support?

Total Manufacturing's CNC milling machine services support aerospace, defense, custom machine builder, and automotive projects that require high-precision, multi-axis machined components. Commercial nuclear work is available through partnership with Trust Manufacturing.
