Overview

Horizontal and vertical CNC turning capacity

Total Manufacturing provides CNC turning services across horizontal CNC lathes and vertical turning equipment, with machines capable of supporting precision components across a wide range of diameters, lengths, and geometries. Our CNC turning and milling services can produce highly accurate parts by removing material from a rotating workpiece to achieve the desired shape, dimensions, and surface finish requirements. Turning can also be coordinated with milling, grinding, EDM, finishing, and other machining processes when a component requires multiple operations to reach final specification.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Have questions? Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.

What information should I provide for a CNC turning quote?

Provide available part drawings, specifications, CAD models, material requirements, quantities, tolerances, and any inspection or documentation requirements. Material details should include the required grade or steel alloy when applicable, along with performance requirements such as corrosion resistance. Sharing this information upfront helps confirm equipment fit, machining requirements, and an accurate lead time for the part.

Can CNC turning be combined with other machining processes?

Yes. CNC turning can be coordinated with CNC milling machines, grinding, EDM, finishing, and inspection when a component requires additional features, tighter geometry control, or specific surface finishes. Combining the appropriate machining processes can also help establish an efficient, cost-effective manufacturing approach for complex parts.

What size parts can Total Manufacturing CNC turn?

Total Manufacturing's state-of-the-art CNC lathes and vertical turning equipment support parts up to 45.5" in diameter and 49.4" in length. The department includes machines capable of handling both smaller precision components and large-diameter work, with exact capacity depending on part geometry and the equipment best suited to the job.

What is CNC turning and how does it work?

CNC turning is a computer numerical control manufacturing process in which the workpiece rotates while cutting tools remove material to create the desired shape and dimensions. The process is commonly used to produce highly accurate cylindrical and rotational CNC machining parts such as shafts, rollers, pins, sleeves, and bushings.
