Overview

Precision surface grinding services for tight tolerances and surface finishes

Grinding is a precision machining process used to achieve tight tolerances, improve surface finish, and prepare workpieces for subsequent operations. Total Manufacturing's grinding services include surface grinding services, ID/OD grinding, rotary surface grinding services, and jig grinding, each suited to different part geometries and finish requirements. Surface grinders use a rotating grinding wheel to produce a flat surface with tight tolerances, flatness, and parallelism, with material removed in controlled passes for parts requiring precise tolerances beyond what CNC machining alone can achieve. OD grinding and ID grinding create cylindrical, conical, or contoured shapes on rotating workpieces, and rotary grinding uses a state-of-the-art rotating abrasive wheel to grind flat surfaces across a range of materials.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Have questions? Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.

Do you offer both ID and OD grinding?

Yes. Total Manufacturing provides both ID and OD grinding for cylindrical features, with equipment supporting diameters up to 14" and lengths up to 55". These processes are often used together on parts with both internal and external precision requirements.

Can grinding be used after CNC machining?

Yes. Grinding is commonly used after CNC milling or turning, both part of Total Manufacturing's precision machining capabilities, when a part requires tighter dimensional control, improved flatness, or a finer surface finish than machining alone provides. This sequencing is coordinated in-house, drawing on the team's grinding experience, without moving the part to a separate grinding supplier.

What size parts can Total Manufacturing grind?

Our equipment supports surface grinding up to 30" x 70", rotary grinding up to 48" in diameter, and ID/OD grinding up to 14" x 55". Actual capacity depends on the part's geometry and required tolerances, so share the drawing during quoting to confirm fit.

What grinding services does Total Manufacturing offer?

Total Manufacturing operates as a precision grinding service offering surface grinding, ID/OD grinding, rotary grinding, and jig grinding across a range of grinding machines. These grinding processes achieve close dimensions, improve flatness and parallelism, and produce finished surfaces after preceding machining operations.
